Celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Kylie Jenner have every girl desperate for that perfect pout. There is a record number of Americans receiving lip implants and lip injections over the past two years. Not willing to pay the big bucks for a procedure that might not work or need to be redone every few months? Drugstore options are expensive too. No worries! You can get out that selfie stick and pucker up; here are six natural and budget friendly ways to plump your lips!
This seems very basic, but don’t forget the importance of keeping your lips moisturized! Busy days, dry weather, not enough water, and even the wrong lip makeup – all contribute to chapped lips. The skin covering your lips shrinks when they are dehydrated. The first step to achieving plump lips is regular application of a moisturizing lip balm.
When buying makeup, be sure to choose hydrating lip products as well! Healthy moist lips naturally look smoother and plumper. Be sure to drink plenty of water too – you should know by now that the amount of water we drink every day helps us keep our body hydrated and healthy. This also applies for the lips.
2. Lip Massage
Believe it or not, a good massage can do wonders for your lips. Rubbing them stimulates blood flow, increasing the volume and pinkness. Use lip balm, honey and a cotton ball, or just your fingers and rub in a circular motion for 3-4 minutes.
You could also use a cleanser, which is one of the best makeup removers and make a lip massage part of your nightly cleansing routine. All of these actions will lead to pink and plump lips, appealing for every passer-by.
Just like your skin, lips need exfoliating too! Exfoliating removes the flaking, dead skin cells and prevents chapping which causes lips to shrink. Before you brush your teeth in the morning, you can use the dry toothbrush to lightly brush your lips and shed the dry skin.
If you want to get fancy, mix a small amount of sugar, water, and a few drops of oil (anything from the kitchen will work great). Massage it on your lips, wipe it off, and then apply lip makeup! The exfoliating will leave your lips smooth and full.
Ever noticed that musicians who play wind instruments have larger lips? Just like any other muscle, regularly exercising lip muscles makes them bigger. In order to achieve a plump pucker, get those lips working! You won’t even break a sweat with these simple moves that make lips bigger naturally. As a bonus, these exercises will tone up other rarely used facial muscles as well! Repeat these exercises at least three times a week.
- While keeping your mouth closed, smile as wide as possible and hold for 5 seconds. Then pucker up your lips and push them forward, like an exaggerated kiss, and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat the smile / pucker 20 times, contracting lips as much as possible.
- Pucker up your lips and move them slowly in a circular motion 2 times. Then rotate in the opposite direction. Repeat this sequence 10 times.
5. Mix Up a Natural Lip Plumper
The expensive chemical filled lip plumpers you can buy in the store contain products that irritate lips, causing them to slightly swell and redden. Despite how it sounds, mild irritation is actually a safe and non-invasive method to create luscious lips. The great news is there are several natural products you probably already have in your pantry or medicine cabinet that will achieve the same effect!
- Pour or cut a small amount of a base moisturizer such as olive oil, Vaseline, or coconut oil, and place it in a bowl.
- Add a few drops or sprinkles of an active ingredient and mix; cinnamon oil / powder, cayenne pepper, or peppermint essential oil all work great.
- Massage the mix onto your lips with your finger or a toothbrush. Leave it on for 1 – 2 minutes and then rinse off!
6. Apply the Right Makeup
Using a makeup trick is another one of the ways to plump your lips and make it look like they have more volume! Apply a liner that is a little darker than your lipstick. You can even apply it slightly outside your natural lip line to make your lips look bigger than they are. Fill it in with lipstick and add a shimmery gloss to create beautiful plump lips.
No expensive and dangerous lip injections are needed! There are several ways to plump your lips right at home without emptying your wallet. Which one are you going to try first? Any other tips for luscious lips?
